The three‑year maths

What it really costs to watch your property for three years.

Most cameras are cheap to buy and expensive to keep. Put in your own numbers below. Our price is real; every other figure is an example you can change.

Where the monthly fee went

There's nothing to pay us each month, because nothing lives with us.

Subscription cameras charge rent on the footage and the features. The Guardian keeps both at your place.

01

Footage lives on your card

Every camera comes with a 64GB SD card. Recordings save to it and sync to your phone. Yours to keep, with no cloud plan to unlock them.

02

The app is free, and so is sharing

Live view, alerts and playback in a free, encrypted app. Add your partner, your kids and the neighbour who feeds the dogs at no cost.

03

The sun pays the power bill

A 7.5W panel keeps it charged, with 4+ days of battery and no sun. No mains cable, no trench, no electrician.

The one running cost, stated plainly: the 4G model runs on your own Telstra or Optus SIM, so its data plan is between you and your carrier. The Wi‑Fi model uses the Wi‑Fi you already pay for.

Cost questions.

Is there really no subscription?

None, and there never will be. Footage saves to the included 64GB SD card and syncs to your phone. The app, alerts, playback and unlimited family sharing are free.

What does the 4G model cost to run?

It runs on its own Telstra or Optus SIM, so you pay your carrier for that SIM's data plan. Nothing goes to us. Check there's phone signal at the exact mounting spot before you order.

Are the other figures on this page real quotes?

No. Only The Guardian's price is ours. The subscription plan, camera price and wired install figures are examples so the maths works out of the box. Swap in the quotes you've actually been given.

What do I pay up front?

$269.99 for one camera, $479.99 for two, $599.99 for three or $699.99 for four. Free shipping Australia‑wide, and every camera comes with a free 64GB SD card.

What if it isn't right for my place?

You have 30 days to send it back for a full refund, with return shipping covered. It also comes with a 1‑year warranty, and you can extend it to 2 years for $19.99 a camera.

Will I be up a ladder charging it?

Give it one 8‑hour USB‑C charge before you mount it. After that the 7.5W panel keeps it topped up, and the battery holds four‑plus days with no sun at all.
